Mint (Applemint)

Highly productive and delicious in drinks, jellies and sauces as well as chopped for salads. The decorative pinky-white flowers can also be used.

For indoor sowing

  • When March to June
  • Where In trays of seed compost
  • How Cover the seeds lightly with fine compost, firm gently. Cover tray with glass, polythene or propagator lid Seedlings appear 14-35 days
  • Care Remove cover when seedlings appear Thin as necessary and when large enough acclimatise to outside conditions then transplant to final position, spacing 30cm apart
  • Harvest April to November, pick the leaves as required

Tip Transfer a plant to a pot on the windowsill in winter for easier picking. Contain invasive roots by growing in an old bottomless bucket or containers
